Champion International Steel logistics services aim to expedite transport of steel and raw materials from producer to purchaser cost effectively and safely. Our team of professionals is located worldwide, with four main shipping hubs located in Ukraine, Russia, South Korea and China, supported by regional shipping centers and by local logistics people in key locations. Our complete logistics service comprises safe handling, loading, and shipping, storage, insurance, inspection and domestic distribution.

Ocean transportation:

Champion International Steel is active in all areas of ocean transportation. This includes handling container shipments for both steel and raw material cargoes that lend themselves to that method of shipment, booking liner parcels and chartering full and part vessels. We charter all sizes of vessels from coasters through handy size and supreme vessels for steel cargoes, and panamax and capesize vessels for raw material products such as coke, coal, pig iron and iron ore.

Vessels are chartered on a voyage charter and time charter (both trip and period) basis.
Using our cargo volumes, we are able to achieve competitive freights by consolidating cargoes and utilizing cargo combinations, entering into requirement contracts with freight service providers and fixing contracts of affreightment. The economies of scale we achieve enable our general steel trading services to remain highly competitive. .

We minimize exposure to the freight market by fixing cargoes forward and by trading Forward Freight Agreements to hedge our risk.

Domestic transportation:

Our logistics service includes domestic transportation at both origin and destination countries, with steel or raw materials being moved by truck, rail wagon and barge. To maximize control and minimize costs, Champion International Steel logistics people are located close to markets and sources of supply. Our skill is in finding the most cost-effective solution without jeopardizing delivery time and in maintaining damage prevention measures during transshipment between ocean going vessels and domestic transport.

By truck:
Champion International Steel does not own its own fleet of trucks; we have well established relationships with the most professional names in the business. This affords us the greatest flexibility and enables ‘just in time’ delivery. Our US distribution companies and our manufacturing facilities in the USA sell steel on a as need basis, a large proportion of which is transported by truck.

By rail
Champion International Steel has developed expertise in the rail transportation of steel from the ports, our distribution centers and manufacturing facilities to our customers. We employ qualified professionals to oversee the paperwork and other formalities to achieve this task effectively and efficiently.

Port logistics
Established relationships with port agents, forwarders and stevedoring companies ensure proper storage and handling of cargoes while in ports. Champion International Steel looks to make beneficial long term agreements and, where appropriate, invest in port infrastructure to augment transport and shipping arrangements. We place emphasis on proper handling of cargoes both in ports and when loading and unloading onto vessels and domestic transport.
